Sural nerve: lateral retromalleolar region

The sural nerve runs superficially behind the lateral malleolus, close to the calcaneal tendon and the fibular tendons, where trauma, scarring or external compression can affect it. It is a sensory nerve whose territory includes the lateral border of the foot. The SLR with ankle dorsiflexion is the neurodynamic test that loads it.
