Femoral nerve in the iliacus compartment

Before reaching the inguinal ligament, the femoral nerve runs in the compartment enclosed by the iliacus fascia. A haematoma or other lesion that raises pressure in that space can compress it. This page shows that compartment on the 3D model.

The nerve may also be compressed in the iliac compartment, for example when a lesion raises the pressure in that space. This proximal site is not equivalent to simple muscular rubbing. The evidence comes mainly from clinical descriptions and series of lesions.

Ultrasound landmarks

Proximal to the inguinal ligament, the femoral nerve lies in the groove between psoas major and iliacus. The package does not include the abdominal wall or the iliac fascia. Deep station.
